Doing Christmas Differently

This year, my family and I have decided to do Christmas differently. We’ve decided to focus more on enjoying each other’s presence than getting each other presents. It’s so easy to lose focus of the true meaning of Christmas in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.

Instead of enjoying the holidays, many times we’re stressed out running from store to store trying to find the perfect gift. And usually we end up spending money we don’t have! I heard a statistic on the news the other day that said most people just get finished paying off their credit card when Christmas rolls around again the next year! Wow!

Are you also ready for a change in the way you and your family does Christmas this year? If so, I encourage you to check out Advent Conspiracy.

Watch this introduction video below.

My Husband and I Decided to Take the Advent Conspiracy Plunge!

My husband and I decided to take the Advent Conspiracy plunge!  Instead of buying our family a bunch of gifts they might not even like or use, we’re going to make gifts and then enjoy time together.  We want to enjoy activities like baking Christmas cookies, Chrismas caroling, watching a Christmas movie, playing games, doing crafts with my nieces, having a birthday cake for Jesus and so on.

Then, we’re going to give the money we would have normally spent on their gifts to an organization that builds wells and provides clean drinking water for villages, called Living Water International.  Did you know that about $1 will provide clean drinking water for one child for an entire year?

Do You Think it’s Time to “Rethink” Christmas?

What do you think? Do you think Christmas has become more about the gifts and materialism than about Christ? What kinds of things do you do to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas?
