My Boyfriend Pushed Me Over the Edge

A young couple sits on a bench surrounded by tall trees in a forest at sunset.

This testimony was submitted by Billy from Missouri

I am 13 and my boyfriend was the same age.

And from the beginning we were always together.
We spent everyday together and every minute.
And then he started saying I was fat and ugly.
So I just stopped eating.

And he didn’t seem to care that I stopped.
And when we would go on dates we would always go to a park or something and we would just walk around.

And all my friends told me that he was not worth the time and that I should let him go.

But he always said that the only reason he said I was fat was because he didn’t want people to make fun of me and that he wanted me to feel beautiful, and I did.

So I just didn’t eat for 18 days.

And when my mom found out she immediately took me to the hospital and I was so weak that I couldn’t ever get up the stairs to go to the E.R
so the doctor had to carry me.

And when I got out of the hospital I had gained weight and my boyfriend said that I was getting fat again,

So I’m back to square one.

Not eating and getting sick!!!

Help!!!

A Response from Julie

Dear Billie,

I am so sad when I hear how beauty is viewed for so many people today. I am normally not this up front, but please, do whatever it takes to remove yourself from situations and people who are not uplifting at this time. I hope that you can have confidence in yourself and the fact that God finds you lovable no matter what you look like or if you are the “ideal” picture of thinness. No one can or should maintain such a standard, especially at the expense of your health. Please talk to your boyfriend or bring another adult if you find it hard. It does not seem like he is helping your emotional wellbeing, and that is what a lot of food and eating/starving issues come from. I will pray that you remember God’s truths for your life. Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. Please remember you are precious to God and to your sisters in Christ. It is not worth your health or your life. You are beautiful just the way you are!

In Him,
Julie
