My Story
I was 13 when it all started. I had ‘developed’ before all of my friends and was, in my eyes, a lot fatter than them.
I so desperately wanted to be skinny like them. I started going to the gym and skipping meals. My mom got slightly worried and so we had a long chat about how every ones body was different and how mine was just as beautiful as everyone else’s. I went to school the next day feeling a lot happier…well until lunch time.
I ate a small bit of lunch and went out to the school field where a group of boys who I knew quite well were mucking about and planning a pretend trip up mount Everest. They included me in their little story saying that I could be their tour guide, then one of the boys made a joke saying “You would have no trouble getting down the mountain, you could just roll on your fat belly.”
I knew he was only joking but I started to panic thinking “am I really that fat?”
I felt so hurt and thought maybe I could lose just a few pounds.
Unfortunately I lost more than just a few pounds. I skipped every meal and threw up what I was ‘forced’ to eat.
Then I noticed people didn’t want to have anything to do with me anymore. I thought it was because I was still too fat. I asked my mom if I was and she went mental, screaming, shouting, and crying telling me she was REALLY worried about me.
The next day she checked me into an anorexia clinic.
3 years on and I’m still haunted by the thought of eating food, but am a lot healthier now and am desperately trying to eat properly.

A Response from Laura
For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.
Isiah 41:13
I know how hard it is to get over a dangerous habit. I had a eating disorder a few years ago, and though I didn’t go through the exact same thing like you, I was well on my way! I’m glad that you’re making a commitment to eat properly. My advice, don’t stress about overcoming this all at once. Focus on winning the battle one day at a time. If you slip, get back on tract, don’t focus on your failures. Trust me, if you do, you’ll just end up getting trapped. Stay strong.
